5. Determining Treatment Suitability
- We cannot treat any clients who are under 18, pregnant or breast-feeding.
- At Illuminate Mobile Clinic we prioritise your safety and satisfaction. Therefore, they may decide not to proceed with a treatment if we believe it isn't suitable for you for any reason.
- For certain treatments, especially if you're trying them with us for the first time, a patch test will be required. We do this to ensure your safety and the effectiveness of the treatment.
- Before any treatment, we'll assess your suitability and discuss the likelihood of success. If it's determined that the treatment isn't suitable for you, we'll explain the reasons why.
- We're committed to providing you with the best care possible, so please feel free to ask if you have any questions or concerns.
- It is the client’s responsibility to ensure that they provide Illuminate Mobile Clinic with relevant medical history and medication details prior to each treatment.
- Hair colour: due to the way in which laser hair removal works, it is only effective for clients who have enough pigmentation in the hair to attract the laser beam, in order to damage or destroy the hair follicle and deliver the best results. As blonde, white, grey and red hair has little to no pigment, we do not treat clients with these hair colours (in the area to be treated) because they will not be able to get to a good clinical outcome.
- Pregnancy and breastfeeding: for client safety, we are unable to treat clients who are pregnant. Should you become pregnant, we will need to pause treatment for an indefinite period. You may however re-commence treatment whilst breastfeeding after having a 6-week post-natal check. Please note that, although treatment does not pose any health risks to mother or child during this time, the hormones may still be unbalanced and as a result, pigment changes may occur. Hormones may take approximately 3 months after stopping breast feeding to return to normal. Treatment during this time may also make the client more susceptible to bruising. You must notify us immediately if you become pregnant or begin breastfeeding.
- Medication: some medications affect the way the skin reacts to laser-based treatments, often causing higher levels of sensitivity to heat and light. Clients on medications classed as photo-sensitive will not be able to start (or re-commence) treatment until this medication has been ceased and cleared from their system. Additionally, some medications also impact the skin barrier and it would be detrimental to their therapeutic benefit to undertake laser-based treatments at the same time. You must notify us immediately if this applies to you.
- We may need to pause/ stop treatment if you become ill. Such illnesses may include (but are not limited to): Cancer requiring intervention such as radiotherapy/chemotherapy, potential skin malignancies in the area to be treated, active moderate to severe acne in the area to be treated, any transmissible or contagious condition, any loss in capacity to consent to treatment.
6. Laser Hair Removal Results - Please bare in mind that hair removal results from person to person. Factors affecting results, but are not limited to, are listed below.
- Testosterone Levels in Men: Due to higher testosterone levels, men may experience different results compared to women, as testosterone can stimulate hair growth.
- Hormonal Imbalances: Conditions like polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) or thyroid imbalances can impact hair growth patterns and treatment effectiveness.
- Skin Sensitivity or Residual Tanning: If you have a lasting tan or have sensitive skin, results may vary, so we may recommend adjusting your treatment plan accordingly.
- Lowered Treatment Settings: To ensure your comfort and skin safety, we may occasionally reduce the treatment settings. Please note that multiple adjustments could impact the overall effectiveness, and the guarantee may not apply in these cases.
- Aftercare Compliance: It’s important to follow aftercare instructions to ensure the best results. If aftercare is not followed, results could be compromised.
- Results May Vary: While laser hair removal works effectively for most clients, every person is different, and results can vary based on factors like hair type, skin tone, and hormone levels. Our goal is to provide significant hair reduction, but we cannot promise 100% permanent hair removal.
- Discretion of Our Practitioner: We care about your results, and our skilled practitioner will make the best decisions based on your progress. They’ll provide any additional sessions if needed and will guide you throughout the process to ensure you’re getting the results you deserve.
- As above, the success of our laser hair removal is based on a client remaining clinically stable throughout treatment. Changes to your medical status, including but not limited to hormonal changes during and following pregnancy or menopause, or changes to medication or medical status that can impact either the results of treatment or client safety, such as Roaccutane or steroids, will result in you being moved to a more appropriate treatment to ensure a safe and efficacious outcome. In certain circumstances, we reserve the right to stop treatment altogether.
- Conditions that may require continuous and more frequent laser hair removal treatments would be: Hirsutism – Excessive hair growth of dark, thick, coarse hair in an individual in a male pattern. Commonly affected areas are upper lip, chin, central chest, midline of stomach, lower back, buttocks and front of thighs. In clinical practice it has often been suggested that ‘real’ hirsutism is simply that which the woman thinks is excessive. Ref. Rook, Textbook of Dermatology. Hypertrichosis – Excessive hair in a generalised and not in a gender specific pattern. PCOS – Polycystic Ovarian Syndrome. The most common cause of hirsutism is PCOS 75%.
7. The consultation
- Careful client selection is crucial to managing expectations and providing a positive client experience. With Illuminate Mobile Clinic you can expect to have an in-depth consultation covering a detailed medical history (including any medication or alternative therapies), the presenting condition of the skin, suitability of the hair for treatment, benefits, risks and potential side effects before you are given an expected treatment outcome that we are willing to stand behind. Clients will be assessed for suitability. Prior to starting treatment, clients will always be given a patch test to ensure they start on the best and correct settings for their skin type.
8. Adherence to our laser protocols
- We always recommend between 8 - 12 treatments to ensure you get the best clinical outcome. Throughout the period of treatment, we commit to reviewing client progress, and adjusting service delivery (within reason and at our absolute discretion) to increase the chances of a satisfactory outcome. We will not continue treating an area that does not require further treatment (classified as having reached a clinical end point) because over-treatment can stimulate hair growth and provide a sub-optimal clinical outcome.
- We use tried and tested parameters for every hair and skin type we can treat to maximise results. This includes identifying the correct wavelengths and settings for Fitzpatrick skin types 1-6 and the area being treated in a consistent manner. This also includes following our safety protocols and knowing when to discontinue treatment. Should we consider it inappropriate to continue your treatment, the reason(s) for this will be communicated to you, and documented.
- We will not be able to treat clients with certain hair colours. We will also not treat vellus (fine) hair as this is unlikely to be responsive to laser treatment.
- Having sun or sunbed exposure a minimum of two weeks prior to treatment, or having a fake tan on the skin when undertaking treatment, will result in changes to the pigment/perceived pigment within your skin. In order to safely complete treatment, a patch test may be required if we suspect sun/UV exposure, or fake tanned skin. This will result in a delay to treatment and as a result may affect treatment outcome. You are strongly discouraged from actively tanning during treatment, and should ensure you remain clinically suitable for treatment by limiting UV exposure, wearing SPF30 at all times (where possible). You must inform us at least 48 hours in advance of your laser appointment if you suspect a change in your pigmentation levels.
